Our History
We are proud of the long, distinguished history of our dental practice.
Dr. Sam Axelrod assumed leadership of the dental practice at its current location from another dentist in 1990. Based on his experiences in previous dental practices, he immediately set out to build a practice that was an extension of his belief in the tradition of combining family and quality gentle dentistry – a place where he could build long-lasting, trusting relationships with his patients. To ensure that they would enjoy seeing warm, familiar faces year after year, he directed his attention to building a winning team of experienced staff members who shared his philosophy.

Your Smile Dental Care has grown progressively over the years, always willing to embrace any new technology that would enhance patient comfort and care. The look of the office has evolved as well - most recently with a beautifully remodeled exterior and entrance foyer that complements the warm and inviting look that patients experience while inside the office.
Today, Dr. Sam Axelrod and his team continue to be one of the most established and trusted dental practices in the Durham Region. They have expanded their team to include and Dr. Shawn Young, a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease. The tradition of family continued when Dr. Axelrod’s daughter, Dr. Elyse Sturm joined the practice in 2008. Sharing a common philosophy and high standard of practice, it was a natural fit.
The patient relationships we have enjoyed over the years now extend to the parents, children and even grandchildren of patients! Our dedication and compassion have inspired some of these patients themselves to seek careers in the dental field.
The Your Smile Dental Care team has seen a lot of changes over the years — both in technologies and treatments — and they continue to embrace and adopt the very best. The one constant, however, is their dedication to serving the needs of every individual patient — over the years and across the generations. We are focused on total patient care.
